Hull Aperture Blanks
UMC has a 40-year track record of manufacturing in excess of 9,000 blanks for more than 1,000 vessels for both ships in service and new builds

Our Manufacturing Facilities
We can deliver individually fabricated blanks for a specialist repair requirement or provide full sets for new builds.

With vessels now seeking longer periods in between scheduled dry-dockings, UMC believes there is enough evidence in terms of safety and efficiency to provide a set of blanks at ship design stage.
The Offshore Market
Our blanks are also meeting a growing demand within the offshore market for semi-submersible oilrigs and other offshore structures that cannot easily be brought to the surface for repair or maintenance. FPSO’s that are sometimes on station for 10-15 years rely on this kind of technology to enable them to remain on station. Read more . . . English . . .or . . . 명. 한국어

Safe and Efficient
The ability to blank off sea inlets and overboard discharges safely and quickly underwater is essential if costly delays or even unscheduled dockings are to be avoided.

Thousands of our blanks have been supplied to literally hundreds of vessels and individual blanks have been fitted and refitted many times without one recorded failure. Our design incorporates a minimum safety factor of 4 and is approved by all the principal Classification Societies. All UMC hull blanks are quality checked to ISO9001:2008.
Easily Fitted By Divers
Because our blanks are neutrally buoyant, divers can work underwater and easily manoeuvre the largest of our blanks. The composition of each blank is varied to suit each individual hull aperture. A specialised computer programme calculates the load on the blank from the dimensions and depth of the aperture beneath the waterline, and then designs a composite sandwich that is approximately neutrally buoyant whilst being rigid enough to withstand the differential pressure.
MAGNASEAL™
Sea valves can be opened up inboard for survey, maintenance or repair whilst the vessel remains afloat. The MAGNASEAL™ device enables quick external blanking of all overboard discharge pipes up to 110mm diameter. One MAGNASEAL™ therefore can cover a range of overboards, reducing equipment required and subsequent costs.
